Obituary for Rita L. Moser

Rita L. Moser
Rita L. Moser age 94, of Oceanport, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Monday, April 2nd surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 4, 1923, the oldest of three siblings. Rita attended the Fontbonne Hall Academy and the Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Philadelphia, graduating in 1941. Her family moved to the Jersey Shore when Rita was 8 years old, and it was there that she later met her future husband, George.

Rita immersed herself in the lives of her four boys, faithfully attending their high school and college football games, baseball games and other sporting events, no matter how far the drive. She loved summers on the beach in both Long Branch and Monmouth Beach with her family. “Grammy” will forever be remembered by her six precious grandchildren, who she absolutely adored and cared for in her Oceanport home.

Rita is fondly remembered by her family for her penchant for writing personal poetry, reciting riddles and rhymes, and her habit of assigning sweet nicknames to her grandchildren and great grandchildren – although every one of them was a ‘honeybunch’. She will forever be revered for her ability to tell and retell family history.

Widowed at age 35, Rita was employed by Monmouth Medical Center for 25 years, and was supervisor of the EKG Department for many years before her retirement in 1989.

Rita was predeceased by her parents, Albert J. Lawson Sr. and Rita S. Lawson, brothers Albert J. Lawson Jr. and Francis J. Lawson, husband George D. Moser, and sons Mark E. Moser, Gerald F. Moser and his wife Janet P. Moser.

She is survived by two sons, George Dewey III and wife Peggy, and Kevin Joseph and his wife Christine, daughter-in-law Carol M. Moser, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Cindy (Matthew Cedor), Jennifer (Jonathan Gordon), Shannon (Jeffrey Carroll), Jeremy, Jacqueline, and Céili. Rita had special love for her five great-grandchildren, Jack and Emerson Gordon, Elizabeth and Ryan Carroll, and David Cedor. Rita was also very fond of her many dear nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 6 from 4-8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch.
