Obituary for Maria Torchia

Maria  Torchia
Maria Torchia, age 89 of Oceanport, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Mrs. Torchia was born in Miglierina, Italy and lived in Long Branch before moving to Oceanport in 1996. Maria was a seamstress for Long Branch Manufacturing Company for many years before retiring. She was a parishioner of Star of the Sea Church of Christ the King Parish and member of the International Ladies Garment Worker Union.

Maria was known to be in an apron from morning till night. She enjoyed feeding everyone especially for Sunday dinners and making homemade pizzas Friday nights for relatives and friends. Her other passion was gardening and caring for her fig and peach trees. Her garden would end up taking over the entire backyard and she enjoyed every day caring for her various plants. Maria loved gardening but her greatest passion in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family was blessed to share a home with her. Maria helped to raise her grandchildren and her influence is evident. Her loving nature, perseverance, strength, and radiant personality carries on through them. Maria blessed everyone she met with her beautiful smile and warm embrace.

She was predeceased by her husband Mikelangelo Torchia in 1979 and her son Anthony in 2001. Surviving are her son and daughter in law, Pasquale and Eileen Torchia of Oceanport; her brother, Pasquale Esposito of Miglierina; 2 grandchildren, Cynthia Rivera and her husband Joel; Michael Torchia and his fiancée Jenn Neral and two great grandchildren, Anthony and Michael Rivera.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 - 8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 10am Tuesday May 22nd, Mass of Christian Burial at Star of the Sea Church in Long Branch. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. The family invites you to leave a letter of condolence, light a memorial candle or make a memorial donation by selecting the appropriate tab.
