Obituary for Geraldine Viverito

Geraldine Viverito
Geraldine Viverito, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 6th, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born and raised in Jersey City, N.J., where she attended Lincoln High School and where she later worked for the Jersey City Public School District in the Accounts Payable Department until her retirement in the mid 1980’s. Along with her two sisters, Rose and Angela and her brother-in-law, Frank, she spent summers vacationing in their Long Branch home. Upon retirement, it became their permanent residence. Together, they traveled abroad and enjoyed some winter getaways to Florida, but for Geraldine, nothing could compare to the ocean breezes at home. To her, it was “God’s country”.

Geraldine was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church and was a member of their senior social group, Older and Weiser. She was a member of the Long Branch Senior Center, Long Branch Women’s Club, and the New Jersey Retired Educators Association. She also was involved in a local senior performing group known as The Legends.

Geraldine was a very special lady to all who knew her. She welcomed everyone into her home and was “Aunt Geraldine” to neighbors and friends of the family. She’ll be remembered for her kindness, her wit, her attention to detail, and for her delicious bracciole.

Geraldine was pre-deceased by her sisters, Marie Lepis and Rose Buono, brothers-in-law, Joseph Lepis and Frank Buono, nephew James Lepis, and grand-niece Anne Lepis. She will be sorely missed by her dear sister, Angela Viverito, her nieces and nephews: James Lepis’ wife Barbara , Gerald and Kathleen Lepis, Barbara and Michael Burke, Joseph and Sarah Lepis, and Mary Jean Lepis, as well and seven grand and thirteen great-grand nieces and nephews. Special thanks and gratitude go out to very special current and former caregivers, Carol, Desiree, Marita, Ellen and Molly.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 10 from 4 - 8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave .in Long Branch. Funeral Wednesday; 9 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass at St. Michael’s Church. Entombment will be at Woodbine Mausoleum in Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity. The family invites you to write a letter of condolence, share a story or make a donation by selecting the appropriate tab.
