Barbara M.  Garnes
Barbara M. Garnes, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Monmouth Care Center in Long Branch. She was born in Long Branch on June 25, 1931 to Joseph “Pop” and Mattie (Seaberry) Shuler and was a graduate of Long Branch High School. She married Walter Garnes on April 8, 1972 in Long Branch and for over 30 years had worked as a procurement specialist for the Department of Defense at Fort Monmouth displaying a wonderful knack for solving problems. Barbara truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; reading her daily newspaper, playing bingo, playing trivia games, chatting with friends and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barbara had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She truly embodied an angel residing here on earth.

She was predeceased by 5 siblings: Constance Shuler, Joseph Shuler, Mary Frances White, Betty Jane Randall and Margaret Shuler. Surviving are her daughter, Lisa Harewood; four grandchildren, Lindsay, Radcliffe, Trevor and Casey Harewood; a great grandson, Carmelo Couvertier, III; a brother, Richard Shuler; 3 sisters, Dorothy Shuler, Phyllis Anderson and Brenda Shuler; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family, friends and others whose lives Barbara touched are invited to gather at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. in Long Branch on Saturday, July 28 to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat from 12pm until the time of the funeral service at 1pm.
