Obituary for Robert Anthony Wells

Robert Anthony  Wells
Robert “Bob” Anthony Wells died peacefully at home on Monday, September 3, 2018. He was born in Newburgh, NY on May 17 1928. He previously lived in Elmwood Park, NJ, Scotch Plains, NJ, and Reseda, CA. However, he spent the majority of his 90½ years in Monmouth Beach, NJ. He proudly served our country as a machinist on the USS Vulcan in WWII. Bob had a successful 33-year banking career. He was an Executive Vice President of Commercial Banking for National State Bank. After retiring from the bank, he worked part-time in the administrative area of Monmouth Auto Body for several years.

Bob loved all types of pre-70’s music. He was dedicated to protecting the rights of animals and in support of the cause became a vegetarian in the 80’s. He loved classic movies and cars. He could often be found tinkering in the garage and was known for being able to fix just about anything. His charisma, kind heart, gentle nature and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bob was pre-deceased by his sister Jean Wells, wife Alyce Wells, eldest daughter Linda Wells Clark and eldest son Michael Wells. He is survived by his daughter Ellen Wells and son Patrick Wells; his daughters-in-law, Barbara Wells and Benu Wells, his son-in-law, Dennis Clark; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at from 6 pm until the time of the service at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Damiano Funeral Home with a private graveside service at Woodbine Cemetery. As a way to honor Bob’s love of animals, in lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ 07724.
