Obituary for Anna Marie Torchia

Anne Maria Torchia, 96, of Long Branch, died Monday, November 5, 2018 at home. Born Anne Maria Della Guistina in Vittoria Veneto, Italy, she moved to Liege, Belgium as a little girl. It was in Liege during the war that she met a handsome young soldier named Frank Torchia. After a brief 6-month courtship, they wed on July 5, 1945. After the war, Anne Maria followed her husband to the United States and they settled in the city of Long Branch.

She was an accomplished seamstress and quickly found a job in a factory. Her talent led her to Enrico Crista Designs in Allenhurst, NJ, which became her home base for 40 years. She excelled in making everything from the most beautiful evening gowns, to costumes, to all of her children’s clothing. Anne Maria was also a talented cook and party giver. No one would ever miss a party that she hosted, from pig roasts to Hawaiian luau’s. She knew how to present fantastic meals, extraordinary desserts (especially her Pavolvas, flans and Croquembouche) and always made it a good time. Anne Maria was also active in many local community organizations. She was an officer in I.A.M.A, the Amerigo Vespucci Women’s Auxiliary, the Miglierina Club and the International Cosmopolitan Club. She was well known for her love of cats. Perhaps the best thing she was known for was how well she took care of her husband Frank and her children.

Anne was predeceased by her husband Frank, her parents Theresa Coletti Della Guistina and Pietro Della Guistina and her son-in-law Alessandro Fantini. She is survived by her daughters Terry Ann Janeczek and her husband Walter, and Raffela Fantini. She is also survived by four grandchildren--Kristen Janeczek Bocanegra and her husband Juan, Eric Janeczek and his wife Jessie, Alessandra Fantini Cuccinella and her husband Pel, and Francesca Fantini; her great grandchildren Maya Bocanegro and Jack and Parler Janeczek; and numerous nieces and nephews here and in Italy.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ, 07724.
