Condolence: I used to stay at "Nana's" (Mildred's) house in Long Beach Island during school summer vacation. I would stay on my own during the week while the rest of the Cary's came for the weekends. This meant when "Uncle Gid" stopped in, I had the opportunity to have some nice 1-on-1 time with him (aside from observing his lighthearted and sometimes comical interactions with "Mother", which contrasted with Mildred's more dutiful and matter of fact dealings with her, understandable given their co-living arrangement).
He was a kind, gentle man always genuinely interested in whatever I was up to. I always loved his stories about the "old days" in Philadelphia when things like pretzels were priced in pennies and the austere way of living as a child during the Great Depression era. They were fascinating stories and always made me appreciate what I had. His voice was deep, methodical and soothing and he was happy to offer grandfatherly advice, which helped to fill that void in my life.
He will be missed by many others I'm sure. Sending my heartfelt condolences to all Gid's family and friends. Fly, Eagles Fly! 🦅
Love,
Jesse
